Computer networking allows you to set up a system with all computers and servers remaining interconnected and in sync, in real time. The primary purpose of computer networking is to have an integrated system that can share information, internet connections and all common resources that have been made available for the network and thus for all the computers connected to that network. Computer networking is unavoidable in modern day workplaces and even in homes that have multiple systems. However, there are shortcomings that need to be managed.

Advantages of Computer Networking

1. Sharing information or files is extremely easy.
While there are many ways to share files, including tethered and USB storage devices, sharing files in a network is more like sharing stuff or copying files from one folder to another in the same computer. Sharing is phenomenally faster, regardless of the size of the file or the format. Also, the files or information on a system can stay synced in real time with all other computers or systems on the network.

2. Allows all systems to share resources.
All computers can access the same hard drive, software and can be connected to peripherals like printers and scanners. It is possible to operate multiple computers having the same storage drives, specific tools and other resources using networking.

3. Computer networking is affordable.
Although you would want the best quality of cabling and that will cost money, there are cheaper solutions.

4. Computer networking is scalable.
If you already have the infrastructure laid out, then scaling up is a matter of just adding new systems. If the cabling or wiring is not in place, then too scaling up doesn’t take much time if there is adequate space for the same.

5. Administration or the jobs of managers become much easier.
One can just supervise one network instead of trying to monitor all systems in real time.

Disadvantages of Computer Networking

1. Challenges of computer networking is the onus of security.
Since one corrupt system or one machine infected with virus can affect the entire network, one has to be very meticulous with the security measures. Networks affected with any kind of malware, spyware or adware will affect all systems connected to the network.

2. Computer networking is resource intensive.
There are no standalone or independent systems while they are connected to the network.
